The opening screen of windows have been designed keeping in mind a read and neatly organized desktop. To adjust settings such colour and background use mouse to click anywhere on the desktop and then click properties.
1. My Computer:- My Computer is used to quickly and easily see everything on your computer. Double click the My Computer icon on the desktop to browse through files and folders.
My Computer folder is the part of the windows hierarchical structure and hence it opens an explorer window. It contains contents such as physical drives mapped network drive and the control panel folder. To see the contents double click these items. We can select and use My Computer desktop short cut to access system properties.
2. My Document:- This folder is used to store documents which we have saved in application look wordpad and paint. Every user has unique My Document folder and its location can also be changed. To open My Document double click the My Document on the desktop. By default My Document folder contains My Pictues which stores documents created with paint and the other is security.
3. Network and Dial-up connections:- If you are using a network, then this icon appears on the desktop. Double click it to browse through the computer in the work group and the computer on entire network. Open the network and dial up connection folder where we can view and configure existing and create new network and dial-up connection which is used to establish connections between computers.
4. Recycle Bin:- It is a wastebashet which helps to keep all your deleted file and gives the facility to retrieve them in just a case we delete them by mistake. This folder holds these files and folders which were deleted from hard disk until permanently removed. The files deleted from floppy or network drive are permanently removed. The files deleted from floppy or network drive are permanently removed and are not placed in Recycle Bin.
USING THE PROGRAM MANAGER:-
Groups, Creating/adding:- Groups allow us to assign rights and permissions to more than one user at a time which leads to the reduction of effort, Groups can also be used to E-mail to the mambers of the group and are used to filter group policies. The windows server includes many built-in groups. For example-local group Administrators and users and also contains domain global groups, Domain admin, Domain user and Domain guests. These built-in groups are security groups which provide right and permissions for users several group scopes and types are available.
SCOPES OF GROUPS:-
(i). Domain local:- Its members can be accounts user, contracts. We can use domain local groups for assigning permission only to the domain in which the groups exist.
(ii). Global:- Its members can be accounts, groups or contracts from the domain in which the group was created. It can be used to assign permissions in any domain in a tree.
(iii). Universal:- Its members can also be accounts contracts or groups from any dominion in a tree and we can use these universal groups to assign permissions in any domain. It is to be ensured that we cannot create a security group of universal scope in mixed mode domain.
TYPES OF GROUPS:-
(i). Security:- This group is listed in discretionary access control lists which specify objects and resource permissions. Security can be used as groups to whom we can send E-mails
(ii). Distribution:- This group is not listed in discretionary access control list and it can be used only as groups to whom we can send E-mails.
ADDING/CREATING GROUPS:- We can create new groups in any folder but Micro Soft recommends adding them. For creating a new group follow these steps:-
A. Right click the folder where you want to create new group and choose New-Group.
B. Enter a new name for the group in the group name text box. You can change the neme if required.
C. Select scope of the group and type of group.
D. Now click OK to create the group.
GROUP PROPERTIES:- The group properties can be used to configure a group.
The group property sheet has following four tabs:-
A. General:- This allows you to view group name and specify the pre windows 2000 name description, E-mail address scope of the group and type of group. You can also record notes about the group.
B. Members:- It allows to view current members of the group and can add and remove members.
C. Managed By:- It allows to assign an active directory user account as the manager of the group. It also gives information like office, street, city/state, country tele number/fax number which is automatically filled from users account's property sheet. Now click view button to see and modify the user account properties.
D. Member of:- It allows to view current members of the group, add and remove members.
